ForteFinder FAQs

What is ForteFinder?

ForteFinder is a beta-version of a SAAS (software as a service) product designed to match sets of expertise, skills, and experiences with clients’ needs. The Life, the Universe, and Everything Symposium (LTUE) is a ForteFinder beta-test client. LTUE is using ForteFinder to match potential presenters, panelists, and moderators with specific symposium events.

How does ForteFinder work?
Users create Forte Profiles that include information about their industry roles, body of work, awards, speaking experiences, and a professional biography. Event organizers provide us with a schedule of sessions. Sessions are either open to application or closed. Applicants select the sessions they want to be considered for and make any of the following selections.

What if more than one category applies to me?
Fantastic! Check all the options that apply.

What if something doesn’t apply to me?
Leave it blank.

How do I save my information?
Be sure to click on the update buttons as you go create your Forte Profile. You can save by updating at any time.

How much does ForteFinder cost?
There is no cost to create a Forte Profile for LTUE. It’s free.

How will my information be used?
Forte Profile information will only be used by LTUE Committee Chairs and Track Heads to identify potential participants for the 2017 symposium. Your information will never be shared without your permission. If you’d like to have your profile considered by other conferences, conventions, etc., you will be notified when these become available and given the option of opting in.

What is the difference between Legal Names and Professional Aliases?
Your legal name is what’s on your driver’s license. Create your Forte Profile using your legal name. Because many authors, artists, and film professionals use names other than their legal names professionally—and some use more than one—creating one Forte Profile that lists all your abilities is easier to manage and increases the likelihood of your profile rising to the top of a search. ForteFinder allows you to add all of your professional aliases to your Forte Profile. But if you really want to, you can create your account under your pen name.

How long will it take to create my profile?
It depends on your experience. Most people complete a profile in about 30 minutes. Once you create an account, you can save your information as you go. You can log in and update, modify, and add to your profile at anytime.

How often do I have to update my profile?
LTUE anticipates modifying their Forte list once a year. You will have the ability to see what’s been added since your last update. In order for you to be considered for LTUE 2017, we recommend completing your Forte Profile before October 10, 2016. After that date, the LTUE Committee will begin searching for candidates and filling positions.

Am I going to have to go through this whole thing every year?
No. Once you create a Forte Profile, your information is contained in the database. You’ll only have to add information about new topics and update your professional biographical details as needed.

What if I don’t want to be part of next year’s LTUE?
You’ll always have the ability to choose which conferences, symposiums, etc., you want your profile to be considered.

Are only experts picked?
No. ForteFinder matches specific search criteria as defined by the client. Sometimes panels seek less experienced participants to speak about their experiences.

What if I exaggerate my credentials?
Don’t. We want to know the real you. ForteFinder is only one part of the vetting process. If you misrepresent yourself, it’s likely we’ll find out, and that’s just sad.
